Resident Evil (2026)

Sitting at 96% on Rotten Tomatoes, Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil starring Austin Abrams is another smash-hit for the director-actor duo following last year’s success with Weapons. Abrams stars as Bryan, a medical courier who finds himself in a race for survival as he delivers an emergency package to a hospital in Raccoon City. Surrounded by hordes of mutated creatures, Bryan tries to save himself and the world from this horrifying outbreak. A perfect blend of comedy, action and impactful jump scares, this movie is a joyride for both fans of the games and novices to its world.

Insidious: Out of the Further (2026)

In the sixth instalment of the popular horror franchise, Insidious: Out of the Further brings a new lease of afterlife. The film follows Gemma, a single mother who discovers that she has a unique power not seen in the previous films; not only can she enter The Further, she can bring entities back with her. This new element adds spooky layers to an already horrifying lore, as evil spirits try to take advantage of her power to enter our world.

Infirmary (2026)

Who doesn’t love a found footage flick? Especially when they’re done well. Infirmary is a found‑footage horror film which has just landed on Shudder. On his first night as a security guard at the abandoned Wilshire psychiatric hospital, Edward vanishes. As investigators watch his bodycam footage to find answers about his disappearance, they witness unexplainable events which leave them with more questions.

Carrie (2026)

Yes, Carrie has been rebooted again. However, this limited series on Amazon Prime was created by Mike Flanagan, and I would trust anything in his hands. The classic tale of Carrie White being mocked while getting her first period and having pigs blood poured over her at the prom is expertly transitioned into a modern high-school setting. The use of Instagram and cyberbullying is something not seen in other adaptations, alongside fears of gun violence and shady organisations looking for those with powers similar to Carrie’s. Another successful addition to the Flanaverse!

Other Mommy (2026)

Starring Oscar award-winning actress Jessica Chastain, Other Mommy has surprisingly been panned by critics, with a score of 16% on Rotten Tomatoes. Director Rob Savage shared that there was a jump scare around every 96 seconds, relentlessly keeping viewers on the edge of their seats. Chastain stars as mom to eight-year-old Bela, who begins seeing an entity who looks just like her mother, becoming more twisted and revealing that it wants to possess Bela’s heart. When there are two versions of your mom, which do you believe?

V/H/S/ Mixtape (2026)

If you’ve never seen a V/H/S/ movie, they’re truly one-of-a-kind - except that there are now NINE instalments in the franchise, the latest being V/H/S/Mixtape. The anthology format follows different found-footage horror shorts, usually with an overarching theme. As the name suggests, Mixtape showcases stories linked by music and sound as a pathway to horror. Blending killer puppets, the rock band GWAR, and a range of eerie and outrageous stories from different directors, V/H/S/ is an inventive and collaborative as it is horrifying.

Obsession (2025)

If you haven’t heard about Obsession this past year, you’ve been living under a rock. The highly successful theatrical release debut from 27-year-old director Curry Barker sits at 93% on Rotten Tomatoes and has become somewhat of a modern cult classic. People particularly praise the performance of star Inde Navarette as Nikki, giving her iconic scream queen status. The film follows Bear, who finds a novelty toy called a ‘One Wish Willow’, which grants him a wish. Bear’s wish, that his crush Nikki would love him more than anyone in the world, comes true in a terrifying cacophony of possession, uncanny valley performances, and truly heart-breaking consequences.

Backrooms (2026)

The directorial debut of incredibly young but talented filmmaker Kane Parsons, 21, Backrooms is based off Parsons’ short film uploaded to YouTube in 2022. Starring Chiwetel Ejiofor as Clark, a furniture store owner who discovers a dimension of dynamic, liminal rooms through the wall in the store’s basement. Clark and his therapist become obsessed with exploring the rooms, confronting their own trauma and the monsters within. Who knows what might lie around the corner when rooms look so familiar yet nothing is as it seems.

Hokum (2026)

Petition for Adam Scott to do more horror films, please. Scott stars as Ohm Bauman, an American author who makes the trip to Ireland to visit the hotel where his parents honeymooned, to spread their ashes. The catch? This hotel’s honeymoon suite is supposedly haunted by a witch who captures souls and leads them on chains through the underworld. After Ohm hangs himself in his hotel room, he survives and is informed that the hotel’s bartender Fiona saved him, yet she went missing at the Halloween Party. Ohm enters the honeymoon suite to look for her, taking him on a twisty and turbulent evening of terror, both real and imagined.

Evil Dead Burn (2026)

People becoming possessed? A creepy remote house? Eye-watering gore? Check, you’ve got yourselves a classic Evil Dead movie. The sixth instalment in the iconic franchise, Burn follows Alice, a grieving widow who comes together with her in-laws at a remote vacation house. As the family members succumb to possession by the Deadites, Alice has much more to survive than uncomfortable family tensions.
